Various types of verbal and written statements will be examined through a critical point of view by doing exercises on understanding, telling, reading, and writing. During this course students will be working on denim projects in order to apply the processes of design and production of denim with details, recognize denim silhouettes, make technical drawing, make necessary pattern alterations recognize fitting mistakes and offers pattern alterations, recognize and use the machines required to produce denim.
This course will build on existing design skills to allow students to develop a portfolio of work aimed specifically at the corporate apparel & uniform sector. Students will explore the garment requirements of various industries within the service sector, including hospitality, catering, hotel, banking and airline industries. The course will be divided in three parts. In the first part, impressionist painting will be introduced with lectures, watching documentaries and reading. In the second, the emergence of the fashion phenomenon in Paris in the years 1860-1890 will be discussed with the help of lectures, film and reading. It is a fascinating period in which the idea of ‘being modern’ is central for the first time in history. In the third and last segment of the course, the focus will be on a few art works in which clothing plays a major role.
