Course Objectives The aim of the course is to analyze the main principles, the theory, context and practices of the Turkish Foreign Policy (TFP).
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • to name the principles and to comprehend the political, economic and military background of the Turkish Foreign Policy (TFP)
  • to describe the different contexts and aspects in the making of the TFP
  • to identify, compare and explain the decision-making mechanisms, institutions and bodies shaping the TFP in different periods
  • to illustrate external and internal factors influencing the making of the TFP
  • to outline the problems and issues in the TFP
Course Description This course is designed to introduce the students to the basics of Turkey’s foreign policy. The course will cover the period of 1919-2001 in the history of Turkish Foreign Policy and analyze the different eras of foreign policy-making of the Republic of Turkey with periods of “relative autonomy” and “attachment to the Western World”, and in a fnal chapter “the post-Soviet years” in a global world.
