Course Objectives The aim of the course is to evaluate the situations / individuals dealt with correctly by a lawyer and make judgments without ignoring the ethical values and to the ability to solve the ethical problems and to cope with these problems.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • • Analyze the concept of ethics, the distinction between ethics and morality, the distinction between value and value judgment.
  • • Explain the concepts of value, values, principles, rules and standards.
  • Set forth the importance of ethics and value knowledge.
  • Gain ethical awareness.
  • • Discuss the historical evaluation and philosophical roots of judicial ethics by obtaining knowledge about Plato (Socrates' Defense), Aristotle (Ethics of Nicosia), Kant (Fundamentals of Moral Metaphysics) and Mill (Utilitarianism).
  • • Compare general principles and concepts related to judicial ethics, public ethics and professional ethics.
Course Description In this course, the concepts of "ethics", "morality", "public ethics" and "judicial ethics", practical methods of analyzing and evaluating whether a behavior or action is ethical or not, the historical and philosophical foundations of judicial ethics, the universality of judicial ethics principles, national and international sources, the structure and functioning of the Supreme Court of Appeals Advisory Board on Judicial Ethics, developments in comparative law on judicial ethics, how judicial ethics principles are interpreted and evaluated in the case law of domestic and foreign high courts and the European Court of Human Rights will be discussed.
