This is a course to introduce the basic principles of design that enable the students to establish the network of relations between the elements of a composition in any medium by way of ‘learning by doing’ method.
In the table below, the main topics that are introduced to the students within the context of this course are given weekly. However due to the nature/structure of the course many of these topics that appear in the list sequentially are worked out simultaneously in practice.

This course enhances the development of the knowledge and skills necessary for structuring the network of relations among the elements of a composition, conveys the basic design principles through comparison of different disciplinary practices, and uses the method of “learning by doing”.

The course introduces the essential techniques of graphics, and stresses the incorporation and application of those within the virtual technology like Computer Aided Design (CAD).

The course introduces freehand drawing both in real or imaginary situations with rendering techniques that are used to accurately communicate the way objects and spaces look in three dimensional projections. Conceptual and presentational drawings and rendering in mixed media will be covered

Introduce students to the production of images and objects throughout history and to develop a visual sensibility about artistic and cultural production. Visual analysis of objects of art, design and architecture.

Introduce the external factors that influence the forms of art, design and architecture throughout history and to develop a visual sensibility about artistic and cultural production. Introduce the external factors that influence the forms of art, design and architecture.

The students will explore a range of materials and products avaliable for use of the professional designer and they will be able to use basic cutting, joining and finishing techniques to create physical models. They will develop skills in 3D model building/ relief techniques as an evaluation and presentation tool. Throughout the semester students will be given one quiz, and they will develop their model making skills by weekly homeworks and inclass applications.

The course introduces the essential techniques of architectural graphics in two and three dimensions, and stresses the incorporation and application of those within the virtual technology like Computer Aided Design (CAD).

This course will consist of several advanced level design visualization and presentation studies. Students will make researches to gain a wide visual knowledge of presentations for different design disciplines. Exercises and applications will be done by students to improve their manual and computer skills, and develop their own styles of design presentation. Throughout the semester, a pop-up quiz will be given. Also, each week students will conduct thematic researches and present their finding in the class.

This class is based on a hierarchy of design process learning skills, which build on each other: knowledge; comprehension; application; analysis; synthesis; and evaluation. These skills will be developed in class discussions and should be evident in the research reports and Project submissions at the end of the class.

This course provides a general information of the events from the end of the 19. century until the end of the Turkish War of Independence and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923.

With special reference to the Principals of Atatürk the course will examine the philosophy of the foundation and existence of the republican regime as well as the democratic developments in secular Turkey during the twentieth century and in the era of extending globalization.

In addition to a specific discussion on the nature of scientific knowledge and social sciences, the course will cover selected issues from anthropology, sociology, psychology, social psychology, political science and economics.

The course involves a careful study of the formation of various aspects of modern societies. It examines the key ideas of the Enlightenment, the development of the modern state, the economic formation of modernity, the relevance of class and gender issues to industrial societies, and the political and cultural significance of religion, secularism and ideology in the modern world.

In this course, public spaces such as restaurants, shops, exhibition halls and offices are analyzed by considering corporate identity. The information on norms of materials and joint details are examined more in detail. Researches the design criteria of public interior spaces and accommodates special needs of all people due to human ergonomy and universal design principles.

In this course, special consideration is given to human needs in mobile interiors such as trains, cruise ships, submarines, airplanes, helicopters, caravans and yachts. So, the concepts of mobility, speed and orientation are very important in design. Using spaces efficiently, detailing and applying intelligent systems in an unstable environment need a high level of creativity in design. Students will present their projects in a given time and answer the questions asked by jury members in the pre-juries.\nStudents, besides attending to the course, are going to take critics at least 12 times from the instructor with whom they work during the term and 6 times from the other 3 instructors, 2 from each and totaly 18. Student works are going to be graded and written on the table by the instructor and signed by the student. Average of the grades is going to be entered to the system as the application grade at the end of the term. If a student does not take 18 critics, she/he is considered as that she/he has no right to submit the final even if she/he is within the official attendancy limit.\n\n

In this course the students will define their first possible conceptual design ideology and identity. Afterwards, they will represent these findings in an interior architecture and environmental design project at their choice. These thoughts and presented ideas will be used as a base for your IA 498 Graduation Project and IA 494 Graduation Thesis.

The course is made up of 3 lectures and 14 individual weekly meetings and submissions. A minimum of 9 attendances are required to be able to submit the final thesis.

The course tries to summarize within the project all necessary information and stages that are needed to execute and develop a project in an professional environment.

The course is structured according to the reality that the user is at the focus of design and that interior spaces are experienced with the five senses. It includes the discussion of the ordering principles of design in terms of perceiving and experiencing environment and organizing space

During the first weeks of the term, the course will focus on an overview of general information on building performance, the geographical and physical characteristics of the site and the influences of natural factors such as sun and wind. Regarding the construction systems, the course begins with the definition of the basic concepts of stability and strenght. Then it focuses on reinforced concrete, steel and wood structural systems as well as foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, roof & insulation systems.

Properties of basic groups of building materials are reviewed, investigated and evaluated together with an overall knowledge of their typical traditional, current and future applications and the criteria for their selection. How the various building systemsplumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental controlsare integrated into the design and construction process to provide a safe, healthy, and appropriate environment for human activity are explained. A basic idea of structure and static are described.

Imbedded into a general framework of aesthetics, the course offers a different analysis of sign systems by means of a semiotic instrument. It will imply denotations and connotations of design language, and will respectively refer to the medium and its messages. Destined to sharpen the consciousness of the future designers for signalizing metaphors within daily life, it will also deal with the uniformitarian vocabulary of mass production vs. handcraft, with the divergence between paradigm and syntagma. Additionally, a variety of analysis and theories about sign, signifier, signified, signification and semantics are to be studied within the course with case studies.

Architectural lighting, acoustics and thermal comforts. Passive(natural)active(mechanical) techniques, basic concepts, materials, measurement of criterions, economical way of usages, comparison of projects between centuries, tremendous effects on interior and exterior spaces which must be considered at the earliest stage of designing process…

The course will focus basis for a study of historical interiors and styles from several different cultural viewpoints, and will examine their inherent qualities in order to more fully understand what constitutes a sense of place in the interior. The discussion will be on the history and philosophy of interior design that encompasses numerous styles, movements, and individual artistic contributions. It also reflects the influence of international political and social developments. In that context the course will also deal with historical evolution of furniture within a chronological spectrum.

Bring together all the disciplines on the Construction Management program and introduce construction enterprises like fundamental Concepts for Owners, Engineers, Architects and Builders as a team.
