This course examines the use of economic information and analysis in making business decisions. Students will further develop their understanding of microeconomic analysis and its relevance to real business and develop an understanding of the scope and limitations of economic analysis in solving business problems.Topics include: modeling concepts, demand analysis and forecasting, production and cost analysis, pricing, competitive markets, imperfect competition, monopoly, monopsony, oligopolies, and uncertainty.


The content of this course will be comprised of mainly examining the structure of financial institutions and markets in developed countries and in Turkey as well as their interactions. The basic topics to be covered in this course are; the evolution of financial institutions, their role within the financial system, the operation of financial markets, their impact on economy, their future role and possible development strategies for Turkish financial markets.


Topics covered are: to provide the course participants better understanding the management of banks in general and banking in particular given the rapid changing financial environment as well as the decisionmaking process in banking and practical aspects of asset and liability management with special emphasis on risk measurement and management as the basic component in the bank management process.


This lecture guides the students through a wide array of mathematics, ranging from elementary basic mathematics, limit, derivative and integral, linear algebra and differential calculus to optimization and linear regression. These quantitative methods are illustrated with a rich and captivating assortment of applications to the analysis of portfolios, derivatives, exchange, fixed income securities and equities.


Students will be able to interpret by comparing academic knowledge gained throughout the program with scientific knowledge. On the other hand, student will be able to evaluate and utilize required scientific knowledge in academic work and more importantly learn how to access scientific data.


In this course net present value and capital budgeting, capital structure, valuation of the firm, IPOs, Mergers and Acquisitions will be covered and related cases will be discussed.


Topics covered are: introduction to finance, finance environment and participants in this environment, what the business finance deals with, financial statements and analysis, cash budgeting, time value of money and risk and return.


This course is designed to provide the students with a thorough understanding of legal concepts for financial institutions as well as the issues implicated by their regulatory instruments. Students will acquire and maintain a perspective of the impacts of regulations for financial institutions and their transactions


DOE 501Basic Derivative Products and Markets

This course examines the purpose and function of derivative markets and instruments, the evolution and future of derivative markets, market participants, exchange traded versus overthecounter markets (OTC), the suite of exchange traded products, selected OTC products, derivative pricing, risk management with derivatives, trading, arbitrage and speculation with derivatives, the use of derivatives in alternative investing. The course will incorporate theory, practice, and experiential learning and will include team projects.


ECON 516Economics of Risk and Institutional Risk

The course focuses on the fundamentals of risk management and its evolution over time. It focuses on how to define, measure and manage risk by taking the students through a historical journey and introducing the heroes that contributed to the profession, from Bernoulli to Laplace, to Keynes, Kenneth Arrow, the father of risk management and derivatives. Later in the semester the course focuses on modern allocations of risk management with specific emphasis on company balance and bank balance sheets, operations of insurance companies etc. It concludes with tools to manage risk.


FIN 551Insurance Management

The course is related to significance of risk and insurance management and structure of insurance organizations. Covered topics include the basic organizational and legal characteristics of insurance industry, concept of risk, risk measurement, how risk management can be applied via insurance industry.


FIN 552Financial Modeling

The financial models covered include portfolio management and estimation, capital budgeting, risk measurement, discounted cash flow models, and pricing of options. Basic financial concepts necessary to understand these models will be reviewed. Useful spreadsheet features such as data tables, scenario manager, database operations, pivot tables and charts, and other statistical builtin functions will be reviewed.


FIN 553Analysis for Financial Decision and Performance

The course is designed to give detail knowledge about the nature of management control system and explain and teach the foundation for implementing strategy in order to achive an effective the performance measuremet and control system. In the final part of the course the model how to create the performance measurement system will be discussed. In the model the course will cover how to achieve the profit goals and strategies to have successful operations.The management control system is aim to show how the firm will be sucessful with the formal planning and control system.


ITF 501International Financial Markets

The main objective is to explore the primary theoretical and practical concepts that dominate international financial markets and those that should be taken into consideration during international risk management and investment decisions.


ITF 510Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management

Topics covered are: investment environment, market players, securities markets, portfolio risk and return, efficient diversification, CAPM and APT, Efficient market hypothesis and Behavioral Finance and Technical Analysis.
