HUK 101 Introduction to Law and Philosophy of Law

Social order, law, rights, enforcements, justice and equity, dispute, legal systems, publicprivate law distinction, branches of law, sources of law.


HUK 102 Roman Law

The main focus and aim of this course is to examine the importance the historical developments of Roman Law, the basic concepts of Roman Law, the concepts of “person, capacity, ownership, possession, servitudes, contracts, the conditions of valid contracts and tort.


HUK 103 Civil Law I

Main content of the course is basic principles of civil law and law of persons. The notion of 'person' and 'personality' in terms of comparative law, natural persons and legal persons (associations and foundations), capacity to have rights, capacity to act in law and act of injustice, assaults in personal rights, protection of personality and protection of private life and human's dignity, name, kinship and habitation, register of births, deaths and marriages are examined.


HUK 104 Family Law

Family Law constitutes the main content of this course. Especially, subjects such as the concept of family and principles of family law, getting engaged, getting married, general terms of marriage, marriage disunion, kindred, adoption, custody will be included.


HUK 105 Constitutional Law I

In this course, the Constitution, the Constitutional Law concepts, Constitutional types, constitutional movements, Constitution Making and changing the political power and the concept of state, government forms, government systems, the concept of democracy, democracy types, elections dominant principles and electoral systems, political parties, the constitutionality control with the basic rights and freedoms will examine. Course topics related decisions of the Turkish Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights will be examined in the light of the decision, subjects will be concretized through practical work.


HUK 106 Turkish Constitutional Law

This is a course in which the infrastructure relating to the establishment and functioning of the constitutional order of Turkey is taught, based on knowledge and reasoning.


HUK 201 Law of Obligations - General Provisions I

This course satisfies the Code of Obligations and the Turkish Code of Obligations in comparison with the Code of Obligations systematic, Law of Obligations, the sources of debt and debt relations, types of rights, the concept of responsibility, debt relations resources, legal proceedings and in particular the contractual obligations, the contract is concluded completion, the issue will be studied and adapted to changing conditions.

HUK 203 Criminal Law - General Provisions I

This course begins with the subjects of basic principles and liability and first part of course contains detailed information about sources of criminal law, application of criminal law in the terms of time, place and person. In the second part of the course, general theory of crime will be taught. At this point, criminal capacity, intent, negligence, unjust provocation, recidivism, elements of crime, criminal attempt, accompliceship and joinder of crimes will be the essential concepts.


HUK 204 Administrative Procedure Law

The basic principles, features and rules of procedure of administrative jurisdiction, types of administrative cases, and appeal process.


HUK 205 Administrative Law I

Concepts and basic principles regarding Administrative Law, emergence, development and the features of Administrative Law, sources of Administrative Law, administrative organization of Turkey, administrative acts will be handled in the scope of this course.


HUK 206 Commercial Enterprise Law

HUK 207 International Public Law

Concept of public international law, sources of public international law, rules of public international law, connecting rules of international procedural law, related fields (with differences), constructive elements of legal order of international law, mutual influence in the reports of subjects of international law in the recent events. - Despite the fact that the general public international law is the main content of the course, all the other branches of public international law, each of which are comprehensive to be a separate course, are also briefly included in this course-. Course sections related to procedural law will be covered in the relevant section (resolution mechanisms, international judicial bodies, etc.). Similarly, international organizations and agencies will be considered in the light of recent developments (UN-conflict rules, rules such as armed intervention)

Couse content includes specific contracts and their legal aspects. Some of these contracts are contract of sale, contract of donation, contract of mandate, contract of work, rental contract, guarantee contract, employment contract and publishing contract.

HUK 305 Law of Business Organizations

Partnership and historical development of partnership; partnership in the Turkish legal system and their types; factors in a partnership relation; ordinary partnerships; general partnerships, limited partnerships; joint stock companies; limited liability companies.


HUK 306 Law of Negotiable Instruments

Theories, Notion and types of negotiable instrument; differences between negotiable instruments by their type of issuance, bill of exchange and their nullification, policy and its formal requirements, transfer and reimbursement of policy, unjust enrichment, bonds, its formal requirements and regarding law, 5491 numbered Code Of Cheque and its provisions, formal requirements, dud cheques, aval, promissiory notes, statute of limitations will be covered in this course.


HUK 307 Property Law I

Course content includes notions of property and real rights, general principles prevailing real rights, notions of possession and land registry, land registry organization, responsibility of the state, ownership, subject matter and scope of ownership, acquisition and limitation of ownership, and limited real rights.


HUK 308 Law of Heritage

Basic notions and principles of inheritage law, notions of legator and inheritor (the distinction between legal heir and appointed legatee), legal heirship, (parental system and basic principles related, heirship of surviving spouse, heirship of adopted child, heirship of the state), notion and types of testamentary disposition, inheritors with reserved portions, reserved portions and action for reduction, transfer of the estate and partition of the estate.


HUK 314 Philosophy and Sociology of Law

In this course, concepts such as right, law, justice and equality are examined in the context of natural law, legal positivism and legal realism theories, and problems such as the sociological origin, effectiveness, function and historical evolution of law are discussed.


HUK 401 Labour Law I

Labor Law is a course taught in two different semesters, and includes individual labor law, and some parts of collective labor law and union law in its context. The subject of the first part of this course will be individual labor law and it will cover the historical development of labor law, its sources, fields of application to persons and activities, basic concepts, employment contract, obligations arising from the employment contract and working conditions.


HUK 402 Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law

HUK 403 Criminal Procedure Law I

The course begins with the basic principles of criminal procedural law. This basic principles consists of the protection of human rights, prohibiton of analogy, preparation and form of prosecution and principles of proof. Application area of criminal procedural rules, restraints to cognisance, proceedings of criminal procedural law, subjects of cognisance, cognisance participation, safety measures, compensation for safety measures, investigation, prosecution, conciliation and seizure, ordinary and extraordinary legal remedies and expenses of prosecution will be the subjects of this course.

LAW 204 Human Rights Law

Historical development of human rights law, basic classical texts, sources at international level, national rights protection mechanisms, and non-judicial or non-judicial protection mechanisms working at international level constitute the general content of this course.


ST 401 Law Internship

Internship covers field experience at any work place (public or private) for four weeks (twenty work days). Students should follow the instructions stated in IUE Internship Guide in order to successfully complete their internships.


TRH 101 Princ. of Atatürk and Hist. of Revol. I

This course provides a general information of the events from the end of the 19. century until the end of the Turkish War of Independence and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923.


TRH 102 Princ. of Atatürk and Hist. of Revol. II

With special reference to the Principals of Atatürk the course will examine the philosophy of the foundation and existence of the republican regime as well as the democratic developments in secular Turkey during the twentieth century and in the era of extending globalization.


TRK 101 Turkish I

Students will be taught how to use the written communication tools accurately and efficiently in this course. Various types of written statements will be examined through a critical point of view by doing exercises on understanding, telling, reading, and writing. Punctuation and spelling rules, which are basis of written statement, will be taught and accurate usage of these rules for efficient and strong expression will be provided.


TRK 102 Turkish II

Students will be taught how to use the written communication tools accurately and efficiently in this course. There will be exercises on understanding, telling, reading, and writing; types of speeches (panel, symposium, conference, etc.) will be introduced; the student will be equipped with information on using body language, accent and intonation, and presentation techniques.


HUK 200 History of Turkish Law

The course contents are; the role of history of law in science of law, basic concepts of history of law, factors that have been affected the appearance and evolution of rules of law through ages, cause and effect of diversification and differentiation of legal systems depending of time, place and conditions, the role of Islamic, Roman and Church Laws as dogmatic law system in the history of law


HUK 210 Law of Foundations

In this course, notions related to law of foundations (foundation voucher, trustee, donations, types of foundations) and Law no. 5737 will be discussed. Law no. 6760 and regulations concerning foundations will also be addressed.


HUK 250 Sports Law

The course unit covers topics such as the concept of sports, basic concepts of sports law, sports jurisdiction and Court of Arbitration for Sports, influences of sports institutions of sports law, sports jurisdiction and the contribution of this branch of law to Lex Sportiva, free movement of Professional sports people and Bosman ruling, the fight against doping and WADA, sports sponsorship.


HUK 300 Law of Notaries

In this course, the qualification of the notary profession, the rights and powers of notaries; its obligations and responsibilities shall be examined in terms of its legal, criminal and disciplinary dimensions and its relations with the professional organization and its rights and obligations in this context shall also be evaluated.

This course deals with the legal regulations related to the profession of law, relations between lawyer and client, types of advocacy organizations, changes in profession, specialization, rights and obligations of lawyer, ethics / professional rules


HUK 410 Tax Law

The basic rules of the tax law related to procedural and judicial law are taught.


HUK 412 Retail Law

General principles and some specific types of contract law, consumer protection law, commercial law, labor law and criminal law issues related with retail business.


HUK 420 Law of Criminal Execution

Main subjects of this course are the purpose and fundamental notions of criminal execution. Subjects as the nature, charecteristic and types of punishment, legal structure, system of criminal eecution institutions, loosening of criminal execution, preparations to release will constitute the course content.


HUK 450 Public Enforcement Law

Scope, types, qualifications collection procedure of public receivables. Judicial remedies against the collection transactions.


HUK 460 International Sale of Goods (CISG)

The Vienna Sales Convention entered into force in Turkey on August 1, 2011. In this course; the structure, principles and rules of the Vienna Sales Convention shall be introduced to the students and the following basic legal subjects shall be discussed: Interaction between the Vienna Sales Convention and the private international law, jurisdiction and domestic law, general provisions and application of the Convention, formation of the contract, rights and obligations of the parties, transfer damage and loss, legal actions that may be taken by the injured party in case of breach of obligations.


HUK 461 INCOTERMS

The content of this course comprises international trade contracts, international trade terms in the framework of Incoterms 2010 and key documents of an international trade transaction.


HUK 462 Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods

Alternative dispute resolution management, definition, traditional and modern dispute resolution systems, conciliation, mediation, arbitration, mixed systems, their usage in Turkey and other countries, comparing procedural law system in aspect of ADRM systems. ADRM in Turkish law, types of ADRM, draft ADRM law.


HUK 464 Energy Law

This course covers following topics: historical development of energy market, administrative structure of Energy Market Regulation Board and other regulative bodies, their legal framework, appeals againts decisions of these boards, Turkish energy law, energy contracts, energy production, tranfer, share, sell, competition law in energy law, international energy markets, international dispute resolution and taxation of energy.


HUK 466 Collective Labour Law

The content of this course is about notions, rules and institutions related to collective labor law. The freedom of association, the concept of trade unions, their historical development in Turkey and in international level, the national and international sources of collective labor law, the right to form and join trade unions, the freedom of trade unions and its protection, the constitution, functioning and termination of trade unions, collective labor negotiations, collective labor agreements, their provisions and its effects, collective labor disputes and their resolutions, strikes and lock-outs will be among the main subjects discussed during the semester.

HUK 485 Human Rights Law

Concept of human rights, its historical development, human rights and its protection in international law, institutions, human rights in constitutions, rights and duties in 1982 constitution, European Convention on Human Rights, European Courts of Human Rights, individual application procedure and precedents.


HUK 487 Basic Concepts of Public Law

The course covers the common concepts and institutions used in different areas of public law such as constitution, administration, punishment and taxation. In this context, it is a course for the student to absorb the theoretical foundations of public law rather than the dogmatic content.


HUK 488 Law of Transport

The concept of transportation law and its scope. Types of transport; road, sea, waterway, airway, railway, pipelines. National and international sources of transportation law. The order of provisions applicable to the Transport Law. International transport of goods; concept, elements, documents used, documents proving the contract of carriage, sub-carriage and real carriage contracts, multiple carriage, parties of carriage agreements, third parties, transportation intermediaries, obligations of the parties, legal and dispute resolution disputes in transportation disputes.


HUK 491 Tax Law Special Provisions

It is the course that teaches the material contents of taxes on income, wealth and consumption within the framework of legal regulations and jurisprudence.


LAW 290 Law and Economics

Basic notions of economy will be explained. Property, tortious act, contract, crime and punishment and economic and legal analysis of the litigation and judicial procedures will be assessed. In this way an economic analysis of law will be reached.


LAW 309 Media Law

The course covers the issues in freedom of expression and communication, legal regulations on press, radio tv broadcasting, protection of privacy and reputation, legal regulations on advertising, trademarks and copyrights


LAW 325 Health Law

The subject matter of this course is to examine the right to health within the scope of the duties of the social state, and the rights of patients and responsibilities of the healthcare professional and institutions about medical intervention in relation with the healthcare contract.


LAW 335 Energy Law

The following topics will be examined: Starting from the development process of EU energy markets, liberation process of Turkish energy market and administrative structure of Energy Regulatory Authority (EMRA), the functioning of the institution, and the legal nature of its decisions and remedies against its decisions and legislation of electricity, natural gas, oil, LNG and LPG markets, market models, market activities (generation/production; transmission, distribution, supply) besides market players, the application of competition rules to the energy market and the settlement of disputes in the energy market.


LAW 340 Capital Market Regulations

This course is structured in four parts (a) The first part deals with the structure and the functions of the financial system in general, in particular the functions of the capital markets and finally the objectives of and the instruments for their regulation (b) The second part is devoted to a short presentation of public international financial law, and in particular the international organisations and international fora dealing with capital market regulation.(c)The knowledge of the main principles developed by these international organizations and fora with regard to capital markets regulation is subject of the third part. (d)Finally, the fourth part deals with the main aspects of Turkish capital market regulation


LAW 350 Regulations for Banking and Other Financial Institutions

LAW 410 International Labour Law

Examination of Turkish Labour Law within the context of legislation and legal practice comparatively with International Labour Law..


LAW 444 Intellectual Property Law

The course starts with an introduction regarding the definition of IP law, its ambit, its relations with other areas of law, and basic concepts and principles prevailing this area. Based on this structure, all subcategories in IP law will be analysed respectively in each week. These are copyright, patent, trademark, geographical indications, and designs. Among these, the most comprehensive part is the copyright which will last until the midterms. The course will be taught at an international level under a curriculum reviewed and suggested by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The subjects which will be discussed within the scope of this course are general principles on IP Law, copyright, work, authorship, economic and moral rights of authors, copyright agreements, licence, infringing acts, related rights, patent, term of protection, inventor, invention, rights of patent owners, trademarks, rights of trademark owners, geographical indications, appellation of origins, traditional product, design, rights attributable to design owner, the Madrid System, the Hague System, the Lisbon System, the organization of WIPO, Bern Convention, Paris Convention, TRIPS, international agreements, registration systems, registration application, new varieties of plants, and traditional knowledge.


LAW 461 International Trade Terms and Documentation

The content of this course comprises international trade contracts, international trade terms in the framework of Incoterms 2010 and key documents of an international trade transaction.


LAW 462 The Law of International Payments

International systems and institutions will be evaluated , World Trade Organisation, sanctions and classification of international payments will be evaluated, the concept nominalizm will be evaluated.


LAW 464 International Monetary and Financial Law

Definiton, sources and parties of international monetary law will be explained. Basic principles of international economic system will be explained. The structure of Bretton Woods system, its development, the structure of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank will be explained. Legal structure, institutions and the implementation of Eurozone Monetary System will be explained. World and Eurozone financial crises will be evaluated and recent internaitonal developments will be discussed.


LAW 470 European Union Law

Detailed examination of the EU law and legal process, mainly the founding treaties of the EU, EU acquis communautaire, the EU institutions and the Court of Justice, legal extent of relations between EU and member states.


LAW 472 International Humanitarian Law

Geneva Conventions together with its protocols are the major source of International Humanitarian Law today. The main focus of this course will be on the Geneva Conventions and other international treaties.


PSIR 240 History of Contemporary International Relations

“History of Modern International Relations” course focuses on states, nations, international politics, decision-makers and their interactions and conflicts through the ages. It is the study of history of relations between states or across state boundaries.
