Program Description

Sustainability concerns have on the basis the environmental impact of fossil fuels used today (oil, natural gas and coal) and that they are exhaustible. According to the current production estimates from a recent report published by BP in 2012, oil has a 60-year, natural gas has an 80-years and coal has an approximate 200–years long reserves on the earth.

Offering a solution to the difficulties mentioned above, while preparing a comprehensive energy policy and strategy, the resource diversification among fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal), nuclear energy and renewable energies (solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, wave and tidal) became a necessity as well. Along with this change occurring in the world and also in Turkey accordingly, there is an increasing need of well-educated labor force on the lacking infrastructure and energy management, policies and strategies in the energy sector and other sectors in which energy is used intensively.

Along with these requirements, the Graduate School of Social Sciences’ "Sustainable Energy Master Program without Thesis" is aiming at educating experts and professionals who are qualified and competent with their theoretical background in that manner to answer which policies and management tools are met in a sustainable way for one of the important input of economic growth and sustainable development known as energy.
